I couldn't help myself from taken advantage of making the title a fruit pun! Fruit and vegetable jokes make me smile. Smoothies are an awesome way to pack in the nutrients, especially in the mornings if you are not the type of person who wakes up craving breakfast. Buying smoothies from the store can be beneficial as well, but if you are allergic to many foods like me, then finding safe options can be challenging. It is for this reason that I wanted to share this berry based smoothie recipe with you.
Serves: 2 smoothies
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries
1 cup frozen raspberries
1 navel orange, peeled. (any orange can be substituted)
2 medium carrots, scrubbed and boiled until tender
1 small beet, boiled until tender, peeled, and largely diced
1 1/2 cups non-dairy milk
**Note: This drink is not intended to be sweet. However, for a sweeter smoothie, add in 4 Tablespoons raw local honey.
Directions:
Peel the carrots and boil in a pot with the beet. Stick both with a fork and remove from the heat once tender. Peel the beet and cut up the two vegetables. Place both in the refrigerator to cool.
Add all ingredients into a high powered blender and blend until smooth.
