Take your french toast to the next level by making it free from the top 8 food allergens and as kid friendly sticks totally made for dunking. On second thought, who am I kidding? We are all kids at heart. This recipe for french toast sticks is super simple to whip up and worthy of being breakfast for dinner. The aroma of warm cinnamon sugar welcomes everyone to the table to create memories and enjoy delicious food that the whole family is sure to love.
Serves: 4 (24 french toast sticks)
8 thick slices of allergy free bread
1/2 cup dairy free milk
1/2 teaspoon 100% pure vanilla extract
1/3 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 Tablespoon allergy free butter substitute
Heat a flat griddle on medium heat.
In a large bowl, whisk together the dairy free milk and vanilla extract until well incorporated. In a separate bowl, add the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon whisking until evenly distributed.
With a sharp knife, cut each slice of bread into three even strips.
Spread the allergy free butter substitute onto the heated griddle.
Quickly dip the front and back of each strip into the dairy free milk mixture. The dipping time depends how thick the bread you are using is, however, this process should be kept very quick as the bread should be coated on each side but not saturated with the mixture.
Place the coated bread strips onto the griddle. The griddle should make a sizzling sound. Cook for 2 minutes or until the bottoms are a beautiful golden brown and then flip the strips over to cook the other side.
Once the second side is golden brown, remove from the griddle and coat immediately with the cinnamon sugar mixture. The idea is to make sure the strips are still hot while coating with the cinnamon sugar mixture so that the mixture sticks well.
Plate alongside your favorite french toast toppings. I enjoy my french toast sticks with fresh berries and bananas! You can also try swapping the cinnamon sugar coating for dunking in your favorite syrup.
